Fun Friday Links and Fitness

Yay to three day weeks! May/June have been great months for Bank Holidays and long weekends- I wouldn’t mind a few more throughout the rest of the year please!

So I have to admit I broke the RW Summer Running Streak– I was still experiencing pain in my right calf so I decided to use this weekend to have a bit of a break. I did some low impact elliptical and lots of walking, as well as Body Pump. I’m sad to not stick to my goals but nobody’s perfect and I think it’s more important to make sure I don’t cause a permanent injury. Today I went to the doctors who prodded and poked my legs, and ruled out blood clots or anything more serious. He doesn’t think it’s shin splints either but has referred me to a physio for a more thorough overview. Hopefully they can give me some strengthening exercises and show me how to tailor my running programme to not increase my time/speed/distance too quickly, which I believe is the cause of my problem. The doctor did say that he didn’t think there was any reason why I couldn’t continue running though which is good news as I’m not sure how long it will take to get the physio appointment.

I’ve signed up to this daily email and am trying to be a bit more strict about following a designated plan, with structured increases. That way I can concentrate on my form during the running sections and make sure I’m not picking up any bad habits which contribute to injuries. It’s working well so far!

This week I’ve done:
Weds– Body Combat
Thurs– Treadmill workout* + Body Pump
Friday– Treadmill workout*
Saturday– REST DAY! 🙂

*Warm up walk 10mins, Run 2mins Walk 1min x7, Cool down walk 9mins = 40mins

So anyway, onto some Fun Friday Links!
