Loving Running

OK so today is the day I officially fell in love with running.

It may have had something to do with the sudden appearance of the sun which generally had me in a good mood, or my new comfy running shoes but today’s lunchtime run was really enjoyable. I’m not saying it was easy or that my legs didn’t still feel like jelly and my lungs as if they were full of cotton wool, but I actually felt positive, cheerful and as if I was finally making some progress.

The stats seem to reflect that too, with this being the fastest I’ve run my lunchtime loop to date:

Distance – 2.74k
Time – 19:55mins
Average pace – 7:15min/km
161kcal

(Previous times were 21:33 and 22:08)

I think I might have done even better if it wasn’t for the fact that my iPod died halfway round, and for me, music is a big motivator so… Note to self- make sure the iPod is fully charged next time!

Today was also the first trial outing of yet another running purchase (yes, I know, I need to stop spending money)…

Spibelt
Price – £19.99

Source

These are manufactured in Austin, TX in the US. I bought mine from Amazon but it was still really quite expensive, and on first inspection I was a bit disappointed. It looks really tiny and like it isn’t really worth the money. However, I reserved judgement until I’d actually used it on a run. They are recommended by lots of runners who are more serious/hardcore than I am, and the description on the Spibelt website sounded perfect.

The SPIbelt™ is sleek, expandable, secure, and does not bounce. It can hold an iPhone™, Droid™, keys, cash, credit cards, identification and many other small personal items. SPIbelt™ won’t ride or shift while running or participating in other vigorous activities.

Test:
It might look tiny but I fit my mobile and headphones in there (when the iPod died) and there would be room for keys, tissue, money as well I’m sure. The material is super stretchy and feels shower-proof too. I actually like that the material is tight and elasticated so that you don’t get a lot of rattling and jangling from there being too much space inside. It keeps things snug against your waist without rubbing, and I pretty much forgot I was wearing it after a while. The waist band is adjustable (25″ to 50″) and comfy, and seeing as I went for the navy colour it’s not overly conspicuous either. It also has the added bonus of holding my top down, I hate it when they ride up when I’m running!

Verdict:

I still think that the Spibelt is a little overpriced but I imagine it will get a lot of use, and so in the long run (haha) will be worth the expense. As with the shoes, yet another reason to get out there and run! 🙂

Off home to enjoy the sunshine now.
