Crossfit Vauxhall hold a Team WOD + Social the first Friday of every month, which is a great opportunity to work out with heaps of other people and have a laugh.

The workouts are usually team or partner based so you have someone to work with, bounce off and generally motivate you to keep going! The class size is much bigger too, with around 25 people taking part on Friday (compared to 4 or 5 in a usual session), so the atmosphere is high energy and really inclusive.

Ready to go!

After a short warm-up, Friday’s WOD was the following:

At first glance this looks pretty horrible but with a partner, you can break things down a bit. So that means you do a combined squat of 2750kg (the women’s weight) – ie. 55 reps each of 25kg, and a total of 75 jumping pull-ups, burpee box jumps etc, so you can alternate between people as long as you reach the total number. This means that you get a few short breaks while the other person is working which were definitely appreciated!

25kg squat…

The variety in exercises also meant while some people were really good at one element, others were better at other things, so it was a great balance. I personally found the running hard (as my legs felt like jelly after the squats!) but the sit-ups were easy for example.

Pep talk before the sit-ups!

Burpee box jumps were definitely the worst! After the first few sets they turned into Burpee Box Step-ups instead…

Burpee box “step-up”

As there were over 25 of us, the WOD was broken into 2 Heats – so my partner and I cheered on another team in the first heat, and then they cheered us on in the second heat. This was a great way of doing it, as those cheers and shouts of encouragement make a huge difference when you’re struggling!

Cheering the other team on!

I had an awesome partner too (thanks Celine!), and even though we had about 10 reps of shoulder-to-overhead (push press 20kg) to go when the 30min cut-off ran out, I was so proud of how much effort we had put in! We went all out for those 30minutes, and I think it was one of my favourite Crossfit sessions so far!

Some of the best people to sweat with 🙂

If you’re doubting whether to give Crossfit a try, then purely for the amazing self-belief that efforts like this will instill in you, I would say go for it! 🙂
