WIAW: What I Ate Wednesday 11

Yay to a 4 day week! This almost slipped right past me as it totally didn’t feel like Wednesday yesterday! (although it definitely feels like it should be Friday today, work that one out….)

It was Mark’s birthday yesterday so happy birthday to him!! 🙂

Squirrels make him happy

And on to the day’s eats…

Breakfast
English muffin with peanut butter and a cup of tea.

I forgot to take a photo so imagine this minus the strawberries, ha….

Lunch
There was another “Lunch & Learn” session at work, where one of the geologists gave a presentation on something he’d been working on. They provided pizza so I had a couple of slices of the thin crust veggie one- it was at 12 o’clock, which is earlier than I’d normally eat lunch but just meant I skipped my mid-morning snack!

I did have a green tea  though at about 11am- I’ve had a really sore throat, and am hoping it doesn’t turn in the bug which has been going round the office, so I’m drinking lots and making sure to take my vitamins!

Afternoon snack
I was feeling really tired and sluggish by 2pm so I had a MultiVitality Boost sachet– bit like a Berocca, with Guarana, B Vitamins, Magnesium, Vitamin C and Zinc. I was sent a packet to try so will do a proper review after I’ve tried them for a few days. It didn’t taste nearly as bad as I feared despite the lurid orange/yellow colour!

Later on (around 4pm) I had a banana and a Trek protein bar as I knew we were going to be having dinner late 🙂

Dinner
We went out to dinner for Mark’s birthday with his parents who are staying for a couple of days. We headed to The Black Swan in Ockham, about a 20min drive from our house.
It was a great place, with a really cool outside space that I’m sure would be brilliant in the summer sunshine. We had booked a table in their large dining room, and enjoyed an amazing selection of food over the course of the evening.
They brought us bread and olives for the table while we took a long our time deciding on our food (and wine), as well as a bottle of water. It’s always great when you don’t have to ask for that!

We opted to share their Parlour Board as a starter which consisted of :
“Wild boar sausage rolls, Tillingbourne ale rarebit , potted shrimp, devils on horseback, smoked duck breast,
wild venison & quail scotch eggs, Bearfields ham, pickled walnuts & Shropshire blue cheese,
served with fresh bread & pickle”
It was all delicious! We just helped ourselves to bits and pieces so we got to try a bit of everything.

I ordered the “grilled chicken breast, chorizo & tiger prawns with red pepper & saffron risotto” for my main although I was already pretty full from the parlour board so didn’t manage to finish the rice and chicken. It was a great combination of flavours. The others all had ribeye steak as it was their steak night at the pub, and said they were gorgeous.
I had a glass of French Sauvignon with my meal (unpictured) and lots of water (still struggling with a sore throat).

And then finished the evening with a green tea and chocolate chip biscotti 🙂

Happy Birthday Mark!
