Want to do a 5K?

I am currently doing Couch to 5K using the Active.com Android app on my phone. I’m about to start Week 4, and at the moment it’s going really well. I chose to do it as a more structured way to increase my running and hopefully avoid injuring myself again, as I did before our holiday. So far (touch wood!) my legs feel good, and I’m trying to remember to do my exercises regularly as well as go to Body Pump to improve my strength and flexibility. I’ve also been foam rolling, which I will do a post on in the next few days…

Anyway, I’m intending to do the Norwich Park Run 5k once I’ve finished the C25K programme, but I thought it would be nice to sign up for a proper race/run, where you have to pay an entry fee and get a medal/t-shirt at the end of it! It would hold me accountable to achieving my goals, and also give me a sense of accomplishment. Plus it’s fun to run with heaps of other people in a social atmosphere and be rewarded at the end of it!

I’m struggling to find many events near me, but these are a couple of the ones I’m considering at the moment:

Ipswich Big Fun Run 5k – Sunday 21st October
The course takes in two loops of Christchurch Park, and costs £9.99 to enter.
There is a Big Warm Up of everyone before the race- sounds like fun!
All finishers receive a medal, goody bag and refreshment.
More information here.

The Poppy Run – Sunday 28th October
This race takes place in Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk, and costs £12 to enter.
The event is designed to raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal (although I don’t think there’s any obligation to fundraise- it’s about awareness too).

Nicetri Back to Basics 3.5mile Run – Sunday 28th October
This cross country course follows a route around Grafham Waters and surrounding countryside in Cambridgeshire (a little further away).
There’s an 8.5mile and and a 5mile race as well if you’re feeling adventurous!
Costs £8 (for the 3.5mile), and a gift will be given to finishers as well as prizes for the fastest in each category.

Does anyone fancy joining me? At the moment I’m leaning towards the Ipswich Fun Run…
Any fitness level welcome, I’m not going to be speeding along by any means! It would just be fun to have someone to run with, and as the races are October onwards there’s plenty of time to prepare 🙂 Please let me know if you’re interested! Or if you know of any other races that you would recommend in the East Anglia region? Or if you fancy doing the Norwich Park Run that would be awesome too! 🙂
