Sofa Yoga: Om Yoga Magazine May

My yoga practise of late has been pretty non-existent and I don’t really have a good reason for that – just plenty of excuses! I just find myself looking guiltily at my yoga mat rolled up in the corner and feeling my hamstrings getting tighter…

But whilst flicking through the latest issue of Om Yoga Magazine I came across a “sofa yoga routine”, and I immediately thought – that’s my kind of practise! The idea is that anything is better than nothing, and that you can still move your body whilst indulging in some serious Netflix binge-watching so I thought I’d give it a go!

Sofa Yoga Routine

The TV Twist

Take your right foot and place it on the outside of your left knee. Let the right hand gently rest hehind you and hug your knee with your left arm. Inhale and lengthen your spine, exhale and turn to look over your right shoulder. Repeat on the other side.

Cow Face on the Couch

Tuck your right heel up towards your left bum cheek. Take your left heel to the outside of your right bum cheek. See if you can allow the two knees to stack on top of each other.

Hips at Home

Bring the soles of your feet together, heels as close to your pubic bone as you comfortably can. Sit up tall and bring your torso forward with each exhale.

Pyjama Forward Fold

Sit so that your heels are resting up on the arm of the chair, and put a cushion to support your lefs. Keep a tiny bend in your knees, inhale to lift and lengthen the spine and exhale reach for your toes.

Legs up the Sofa

Sit sideways on the sofa so your bum is up against the back cushion. Turn and swing your legs up so that your feet are resting on the wall. If its comfortable for your neck, you can let your head hang off the front of the sofa and either let your hands rest on your chest or reach behind you to the floor.

And my favourite, Sofa Savasana!

Have you tried sofa yoga? Or maybe desk yoga?
