This January and February, they’ve been running a new campaign called “Fly Flex Flow”- this three part workout combines the best of run training, conditioning and yoga flow. It was designed to help people make a healthy start to the year with a head-to-toe workout devised by run coach Annie Foulds and renowned yogi Jo Arthur, combined with exclusive recipes and nutrition tips from Natasha at Honestly Healthy.

I’d been trying to sign up to try Fly Flex Flow since it launched but you have to be quick to snap up a free Sweaty Betty class! Finally I managed to get onto the list for Tuesday’s session in Wimbledon, which happened to be the last week they were running it.

There was a good sized group and we were met by our instructor Amanda, who was friendly and encouraging. We headed outside wearing reflective bibs onto Wimbledon Common for some running sprints- 20minutes of interval training left me out of breath, although I didn’t go all out for fear of tripping and twisting my ankle on the dimly lit grassy surface! We mixed up the sprints with star jumps, squats and lunges, before heading back inside to the studio.

The “Flex” section of the class used small dumbbells, which didn’t seem particularly heavy when you started out but after numerous repetitions definitely made my arms burn!  Lunges, squats, lateral raises, bicep curls, followed by planks, ab work, and glute bridges- it really was a full body session!

We finished with a short yoga flow, which I felt could have done with being a bit slower so you could really stretch and cool down at the end of the class.

I loved the mix of movements and the variety of the class – we definitely worked hard, my legs were achey afterwards and I can attest to feeling it today too!

Even though the classes have finished now you can still do the workout yourself at home. The video for the Fly section is here, and Flex and Flow part here.

Did you get to try Fly Flex Flow? Have you been to any of the other free Sweaty Betty classes? I think it’s great that they offer people the chance for fitness without any cost!
