New Year: January Goals

Following the same theme as last year I will be setting monthly goals throughout 2015, rather than yearly resolutions. I do have some general targets, but breaking these down into smaller more manageable tasks means that you feel like you’re getting somewhere!

January

1. Take part in the first month of Jantastic
I signed up to Jantastic last year, and it was a great way of motivating me to keep running through the cold weather in January and February, and into the Spring. This year Jantastic have added cycling and swimming to the sports you can log too, which is great!

I’ve commited to 3 runs per week as stated on my Half Marathon training plan, and am again a member of the Team Naturally Run Jantastic team. You can see your progress, motivate other team members and keep each other accountable.

2. Complete the Believe Yoga for Runners course
After a recommendation from Laura (Life, Laura, London) I’ve signed up to the Believe 6-week Yoga for Runners course run by Jasyoga. This starts next Monday and will take me right up to the week before Brighton Half Marathon so seemed like the perfect fit!

The course is designed to help you optimise your performance in the New Year by recovering from training, preventing injuries and infusing your 2015 goals with the power of belief- exactly what I wrote about in my last post. As part of the course, we also get a copy of Lauren Fleshman’s Believe Training Journal to log goals, plan and record runs, as well as it being packed with photographs, notes and advice. I can’t wait to get started!

3. Make packed lunches 3 days a week
One of my more general goals for 2015 is to sort out my finances- I still have some debt from buying all the furniture for my new flat, and I’d like to clear that this year which will require some budgeting!

One of the ways I’m going to achieve this is by buying food out less, and trying to bring in packed lunches to work at least 3 days per week. This ought to mean I eat a little healthier too! I recently bought The Art of Eating Well by Hemsley & Hemsley, and will be flicking through that for some inspiration.

4. Have 1 evening a week without TV
Another general goal is to make my evenings more productive. Quite often (if I’m not busy in the evening) after getting home from work and making dinner, I will simply spend the rest of the day on the sofa writing blog posts/browsing the Internet and watching TV.

In 2015, I want to rediscover my love for reading, spend time listening to music, doing jigsaw puzzles, or simply complete some of the chores that need doing – rather than leaving them all to the weekend! To that end, in January I’ve decided to start small, by committing to one evening a week without TV. One of the reasons why I switch it on is because I don’t like it being so quiet in my flat! So I bought an Internet radio with my Christmas money which has been brilliant so far!

A whole 365 days of awesomeness lie ahead- what will you accomplish this January?
