At this time of year it can be hard to fit in your 5-a-day around the plethora of mince pies, Christmas puddings, glasses of prosecco and advent chocolates!
But it’s during the winter season when your body really craves those extra nutrients and vitamins, to keep you fighting off the dreaded colds and germs, and help you recover quicker from your workouts.
With this in mind, Cherry Active have created a range of 100% natural juices (cherry, blueberry and beetroot) which aim to assist with:
- sports and training recovery
- joint care
- healthy sleeping patterns
The Cherry Active juice is already endorsed by numerous athletes who use it as part of their training regime, and Montmorency cherries have been proven to speed recovery and reduce soreness from exercise and training (read research here).
I was sent the Blueberry Active to try, which was great tasting!
It is a thick concentrated juice, with no added preservatives – just 100% blueberries. In fact each 210ml bottle contains over 1250 blueberries!
You mix 30ml of the concentrate with half a pint of water (handily marked on the glass they sent me) to make a refreshing juice. I was afraid that it would be too strong and sickly, but when watered down it has a great fruity taste that isn’t too sweet. I didn’t try it in any other forms, but you can also add it yoghurt, or make smoothies with it too!
Blueberries are a well known “superfood” and have numerous health benefits.
- They contain a high level of antioxidants which work to neutralize free radicals linked to the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other age-related conditions
- One serving of blueberries gives you almost 25% of your daily intake of Vitamin C.
- Blueberries contain anthocyanins, which give them their blue colour, and also help to improve cardiovascular health, and attack cancer causing free radicals.
- Research has shown that blueberries can boost brain health with memory improvements shown over time, and the possibility of them being used as a preventative method for cognitive decline.
How do you pack in your fruit and veg during the festive period? I’ve been making a lot of soup, especially now I have my vegetable box delivered every week 🙂
