This is been a pretty awesome week of workouts that culminated in the epic We Own The Night 10k on Saturday - check out my race recap here!
Monday - Elle/Nike Run Club 2.5miles
Tuesday - REST
Wednesday - Cyclebeat
Thursday - 2mile run
Friday - REST
Saturday - Nike We Own The Night 10k
Sunday - REST
Monday was the final Elle/Nike Run Club leading up to the race, and it was clear that everybody wanted to make it to the final session with double the number of people I'd seen before! Lots of Team Naturally Run members were there, and it was a lovely taper run round Regents Park in the sunshine.

The free evening runs held at Niketown have been a great way to meet friends, and get in a run around beautiful parts of London I've not really explored. I've only managed to make it to a couple, as it is quite a trek from work, but I really hope that there's a future regular session that I can attend, to keep up my running and socialising!
Photo courtesy of Charlie - I loved that they made the speedier people run round and round the fountain until everyone had caught up! |
Wednesday I headed to a spinning class with a difference at the cool Cyclebeat studios near Bank. I'd bought one of their unlimited "ยฃ30 for 30days" passes (they're now offering 20days for ยฃ20 if you want to give it a try!) as I'd read and heard a lot about their amazing indoor cycling classes.

The main thing that annoys me about regular Spinning classes is how often the instructors don't use their music at all, not even trying to cycle to the beat. This is where I feel like Cyclebeat was made for me! The instructors are more like DJs, putting together their own tracklist which pumps everybody up and most definitely sets the speed and pace of the workout. I loved it!

I wish I had taken a video, or even some photos inside the studio during the class because the atmosphere was awesome. The lights were dimmed, there was a disco ball and it was like a cycling rave! The instructor I had was Delvin - check out an example playlist here - and he was really helpful with getting me set up on my bike and getting everybody's energy levels skyrocketing! There's a pic of him in this article here, which details a bit more about the origins of the studio - it was only set up in Feb of this year so is still pretty new- get down there and try it out!

You sign up to ride a specific bike - I was no.30 - and they have the "Beatboard" displayed at the front of the studio which lists each bike's RPM, watt output, energy used etc. It only lists the bike by number so is reasonably anonymous but allows for enough competition to make you push that little bit harder so you can beat the numbered bike above you in the table!

I tried out some of the clip-on shoes on the bike, as you can hire them for ยฃ1 from the Cyclebeat studio, and I'd definitely recommend them. Once I got over the fear of falling off, they really allow you to put more power into your legs and get the most out of a workout. I was super sweaty by the end, and I felt great ๐
I've already booked into 2 more classes this week - got to make the most of that unlimited 30days!
Have you tried any new fitness classes recently? There's so many different things in London I want to try them all!
