Danio Super Tasty Yoghurts : Review

A while ago I was sent a supermarket gift card in order to try the new yoghurts from Danone, called Danio.

I realised I actually didn’t take any photos of the pots because they disappeared so quickly – that gives you a good idea of how tasty they are!
Here is a quick description of what is so special about Danio yoghurts:

“Danio is a super thick, super tasty yogurt over a layer of delicious fruit on the bottom.

The secret behind Danio’s super thickness is that it’s made to Danone’s strained yogurt recipe which uses more milk than standard yogurts to make it amazingly thick and high in protein. Danio is produced by Danone’s yogurt experts in Poland.”

They were a little tough to get hold of – so far I’ve only seen them in larger supermarkets, but hopefully as they become more popular Danio will be available in other stores.
I managed to get all of the flavours to try which was great! They come in strawberry, passionfruit and cherry which are 0% Fat, and raspberry, blueberry, and peach which are Low Fat. The yoghurts are also described as “High Protein” with ~12g in each pot.
My favourites were the berry flavours, especially blueberry and cherry. I mostly ate them for breakfast- I’ve been trying to wean myself off porridge, and yogurt with cereal and fresh fruit was a really tasty alternative!
Strawberry Danio with 2 Weetabix, blueberries, raspberries and agave nectar – yum!
The yoghurts really were very thick and creamy with a consistency not dissimilar to cheesecake! Dessert for breakfast anyone?!

The same combo with Blueberry Danio – can you tell this was a fave?! 🙂
On another day I had the passionfruit one on it’s own – a 160g pot is between 125-160kcal so they make a great snack.
The pots currently retail for 85p but they’re on offer at Tesco at 3 for £2.00 or Buy One Get One Free at Sainsburys, so definitely worth looking out for deals so you can try them too! 🙂
The only thing I would mention is that with 18g of sugar in some pots, they’re perhaps not something I would eat every day. Some of that will be fruit sugar of course, but there is also some added sugar as listed in the ingredients.
Blueberry- Low Fat:

“Strained yogurt (skimmed milk, yogurt cultures), Blueberry (10%), Cream (8,8%), Sugar (7,92%), Lemon juice from concentrate, Stabilisers (modified starch, pectin, guar gum), Natural Flavouring, Milk mineral concentrate, Acidity regulators (sodium citrate). Contains milk.”

Strawberry – 0% Fat:

“Strained yogurt (skimmed milk, yogurt cultures), Strawberry (10%), Sugar (5.4%), Glucose-fructose syrup, Stabilisers (modified starch, guar gum, carrageenanan), Strawberry seeds, Lemon juice concentrate, Black carrot concentrated juice, Natural Flavouring, Milk mineral concentrate, Acidity regulator (sodium citrate). Contains milk.”

The Low Fat yoghurts also have cream added to them, which does make them quite rich. Overall a great luxurious tasting yoghurt – I’ll be adding them to my shopping list!

NB: I was sent a £10 Tesco giftcard from Danone in order to try the yoghurts, but as always all opinions are my own.
