Outdoor kit I’m loving – February

The weeks are flying by and we’re nearly at the end of February already! It’s a little crazy.

But with so much to look forward to in the next few months and the fact that I’m pretty fed up of the dark, cold weather (plus my birthday is at the end of Feb), I’m actually excited to move on to March and the promise of Spring!

Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying out some fantastic kit on my outdoor adventures, so I thought I’d share some of my favourite pieces.

Shock Absorber Activewear Geometric Capris* – Most female runners will be familiar with Shock Absorber sports bras. I swear by their Run Bra or MultiSport Bra for high impact exercise! Earlier in the year Shock Absorber branched out, and launched their own range of activewear encompassing leggings, capris, and tank tops with some fantastic prints. I’ve been running in their Geometric Capris as part of my training for Reading Half Marathon and they’re pretty awesome!

With a high, wide soft waistband the capris are really comfortable and don’t fall down at all – one of the most annoying things with running leggings. They also seem to have a slightly thicker area around the bum with flat seams, so no chafing and no see-through fabric over your derriere! With the cool purple mesh panels and funky pattern, I’m a pretty big fan – they just need to add side pockets (there’s a small zip pocket at the back) and they’d be the perfect legging.

Osprey Hikelite 18L* – Our family is developing quite a collection of Osprey backpacks and bags. With a couple of their Escapist backpacks for hiking, a Viper for cycling, one of their Stuff Duffels and now the fabulous Hikelite, I think its fair to say we’re huge fans of the brand!

Osprey just seem to know exactly what the outdoor adventurer needs, and even their smaller, simpler backpacks contain so many pockets, great features and cool hidden aspects. The new Hikelite is designed as the perfect companion for shorter day trips, summer hikes or those looking to venture out on their first micro-adventure. It comes in an 18L and 26L, and I’ve found the 18L is the perfect size for me – I’ve used it for so many things, from a three-hour walk in the New Forest, to carrying my kit whilst working at the London Winter Run.

As the name suggested, it’s an incredibly light backpack and has fully adjustable straps and a hip belt, so is also really comfortable to wear and you barely notice you’re carrying it. With the suspended mesh back-panel to stop you getting a sweaty back when it’s hot, and the built in rain-cover, the Hikelite can handle whatever the British weather throws at you!

Tile Sport Phone Finder* – My final favourite is this little gadget, the Tile Sport Phone Finder. You might have heard of these, I know at least three people who swear by them and they’re great if you’re a little forgetful and are always misplacing things! This is actually something that James has been using, but the amount of time it has saved him (and me) is amazing.

The Tile Sport can be connected to your keys, camera, tied to your shoelace, slipped in a wallet or thrown in your hiking backpack. It connects to the Tile app on your phone, and has a super loud alarm and a range of 200 feet. Basically if you misplace your keys, you press the app on your phone and it rings the Tile so you can locate it. It will also show the ‘last known location’ on the app, just in case you’ve dropped them on your run, left them in your car etc.

This feature can be used as a safety tracker, so that if you are out and about, your partner can add that particular Tile to their app and track where you are – great if you’re stuck on the M25 or lost up a mountain!

You can also use it in reverse if you can’t find your phone, just press the Tile and it will ring your phone!

The Tile Sport is designed to be waterproof, durable and able to withstand any amount of adventure so is great for us outdoorsy people, although you can see a little wear on it in the below photo. Tile also do other designs and you can add as many Tiles as you like to your app, so you can keep track of all your valuables!
