Spa Break at Champneys Tring

I find it hard to sit and do nothing.

Even when I’m relaxing on the sofa watching a movie on Netflix, I’m usually multi-tasking on my laptop or my phone, sometimes writing a shopping list, but never just sitting and watching! Why is that?! Why are we physically incapable of stopping and giving something our complete and utter focus. Even if that one thing is just sitting still.

I went for a One-Night Spa Break at Champneys Tring this weekend, and when I first sat down in the jacuzzi I felt so fidgety!

It took a good few hours to accept that it was ok to just casually move from sauna, to jacuzzi, to sun lounger, to swimming pool with no real purpose other than unwinding. The beautiful and luxurious surroundings of the Champneys resort definitely helped with that.

I stayed in a Superior Double Room which had a lovely view of the gardens, as well as tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary bottled water, a hairdrier, Champneys toiletries and a huge bed!

You are also provided with flip-flops and a soft white robe which is perfectly acceptable to be worn while walking around the resort, and to breakfast and lunch. Dinner is the only meal which actually needs you to put on proper clothes!

But it’s worth dressing up for – the food options are varied, tasty and with plenty available. You definitely won’t go hungry! I opted for the grilled salmon with sweet potato mash and vegetables for my main which was lovely. Breakfast and lunch are both buffets, with hot and cold options – it was hard not to want to eat it all!

Dinner at Champneys Tring

There was also tea and coffee served in the Drawing Room after dinner, where you could sit by the fire next to the grand piano, in an armchair and feel very posh.

The spa facilities themselves do get quite busy, especially at the weekends but there are enough options for it not to feel overcrowded.

As well as a jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and swimming pool there is also an outdoor jacuzzi (a little chilly at this time of year!) and a relaxation room complete with beds, duvets and furry blankets. Great to go and have a lie down with a magazine, or just enjoy an afternoon nap.

As part of the package I had a 1 hour treatment slot booked, which included a Neck, Back and Shoulder Massage and a Facial. Having both of these treatments in the 60minutes allowed, which also covered a short consultation at the beginning and changeover time between the treatments, did feel a bit rushed. But my skin felt very soft and looked lovely and glowy after the facial, even if the 20minute massage didn’t really allow enough time to properly relax. I may have to pay the extra and indulge in a longer treatment next time!

The waiting area for the treatments is huge, with therapists coming and going all the time and magazines and drinks available while you wait.

The resort also has a gym, and fitness studios offering classes all week – I didn’t make it along to any this time, but there’s a great selection on offer from Yoga to Aqua Aerobics all included in your booking.

I did join a guided walk around the grounds of the resort- it’s an old stately home set in 170 acres of rolling parkland, and we stomped our way through the mud and the leaves. I meant to take some photos while we were walking but I got chatting to a couple of people, and it seemed rude to keep stopping to whip out my phone, so I just enjoyed the conversation and the fresh air.

Ready to relax in my robe at Champneys Tring

The 1-night Pamper Break allows you to arrive at 2pm on the first day and leave at 4pm the following afternoon. By the time my check-out time rolled around I was feeling pretty blissed out and didn’t want to leave! There’s something about escaping to a new venue, that removes all thoughts of previous stresses and worries.

My sister and I have a Spa Break booked at the Champneys Henlow resort in between Christmas and New Year as a little treat, so I appear to slowly be working my way around the different Champneys resorts!

Have you been on a spa break? Do you find it hard to relax, or sit and do nothing?
