Friday Pick-Me-Up: Gluco Tabs Review

Ah Friday…
Today I have some info about a product that will give you a physical pick-me-up…
and some cute pictures of animals to give you a mental pick-me-up…
Happy Friday!

Glucose is the primary sugar in the blood and is the sole energy source for the brain, kidneys, and red blood cells.

“GLUCO is about delivering natural energy when you need it most”

How do you use Gluco Tabs and Gluco Juice?
Gluco Tabs are taken orally by chewing thoroughly before swallowing. Gluco Juice is a still non carbonated drink that can be taken as a normal drink for a shot of energy.

What are the main ingredients in Gluco Tabs and Gluco Juice?
Gluco Tabs contain 4 grams of fast-acting carbohydrates, mainly in the form of dextrose (glucose). The other ingredients listed on the package are flavourings, colourings, anti-caking agents, and preservatives.
Gluco Juice contains a unique measured dose of 15g fast acting carbohydrates, largely in the form of dextrose (glucose). The other ingredients listed are flavourings, colourings and
preservatives.

Thoughts?
I always find it hard to tell if a product that claims to give you a boost of energy really does that, without doing a comparable test with exactly the same contributing factors, except no energy product. Of course this is pretty impossible to do! Therefore it’s entirely possible that you attribute any positive response to the product, when it was really the bigger breakfast you ate, the fact that you warmed up properly before your run, or got to bed on time last night…
However, giving things the benefit of the doubt here are my thoughts! I tested the products before my lunchtime runs at work, when I’d had breakfast that morning but didn’t eat my lunch until I got back.

Gluco Juice- I really didn’t get on with this drink. It’s syrupy, and very sickly sweet (duh you might say, it’s liquid sugar) and the taste reminded me of kids cough medicine! Perhaps if you like Calpol it would be ok…

Gluco Tabs– The Gluco Tabs were a much better product for me – I loved the taste of the Lemon and Lime, refreshing and citrusy! The tube was small and handy to carry, and the tabs were easy to chew whilst on the run as well. I also thought that they gave me a small boost of energy, and I felt able to complete my run without being desperate for my lunch!
The only downside is that if you were actually going to use these as running fuel, you would need to eat rather a lot! Runner’s World suggest 30-60g of carbohydrates each hour, after the first hour of running, and as each Gluco Tab is only 4g that would equate to at least 8 tabs per hour!
Therefore I now have the tube on my desk at work and have been using them as an afternoon boost, when I start to feel drained from working, rather than for physical exercise, which seems to work pretty well!
They are also suggested for those who suffer from diabetes and need to raise their blood sugar levels quickly. Guidelines recommend taking between 10g-20g of carbohydrate for treatment of a hypoglycaemic attack, which would be one Gluco Juice drink or 3 Gluco Tabs.

Have you ever tried any glucose instant energy products?

NB: I was kindly sent the Gluco products to try but all opinions are my own.
