Samsung Rowing World Cup- Eton Dorney

On Saturday Mark and I went along to watch some of the second World Rowing Cup of 2013, which was held from 21st to 23rd June at Eton Dorney.

Check out the waves on the lake- it was very choppy!

Saturday was the semi-finals and B-finals of some events, with the opportunity to cheer on some of the world’s finest rowers at one of London 2012’s most iconic venues.

The weather unfortunately was not as positive with grey skies, sporadic downpours and a nasty crosswind making the rowing (and spectating) conditions less than ideal!

Never-the-less keeping warm in our coats and clutching a coffee, we enjoyed the atmosphere.

I always love watching athletes at the top of their field, it’s so inspiring. And rowing is a great sport, that has benefited massively from the Olympic legacy and the success of the GB rowers, with many more people wanting to try it out and get involved.

There was some intermittent sunshine! And great commentary, as well as a big screen to keep track of the races.

Despite the rain it was a fun morning and we managed to catch up with the rest of the Finals action on BBC2 today, with several of the British boats winning medals.

You can watch the action at Eton Dorney on iPlayer, or look out for the next stage of the World Rowing Cup which is held 12th-14th July in Lucerne, Switzerland.

What Olympic sports would you love to try? Ever given rowing a go? I rowed for a year whilst doing my Masters, but wasn’t very good! It was great fun though 🙂
